Let the Games Begin
The Canada 55+ Games is celebrating its 20th anniversary. With a focus on promoting wellness, the Canadian Senior Games Association has more than 500,000 provincial and territorial association members. The Games take place in a new region every two years, spanning a wide range of physical and mental challenges – from slow-pitch, hockey, track and curling to contract bridge and darts. This year’s event is expected to attract more 1,500 qualifying participants to New Brunswick’s Greater Saint John Region for five days of fun, fitness and friendship.
Hilarity for Charity Debuts on Netflix
If you missed hanging with the stars at Seth Rogen’s sixth annual Hilarity for Charity fundraiser in Los Angeles, no worries – you can catch the show’s debut on Netflix. The variety show features a star-studded lineup of comedians and is part of a larger initiative aimed specifically at Millennials. Spurred by their own experiences, Rogen and his wife, Lauren Miller Rogen, founded Hilarity for Charity in 2012 as an Alzheimer’s resource for the younger generation. HFC has since raised more than $7 million US, which it uses to promote awareness, inspire change and accelerate progress in Alzheimer’s care, research and support.
In the Zone
The Caregiver Zone is a new eLearning platform from Saint Elizabeth and Elizz, in partnership with Veterans Affairs Canada. This new interactive resource, for people taking care of veterans, provides instruction, education, videos and tools on a variety of caregiving topics. Visit the site to connect with other caregivers and access the support of a caregiver coach.
Medical Cannabis Evidence Guide Weeds Out Fake News
Healthcare professionals now have access to the best available evidence on the use of medical cannabis via a timely resource from the Canadian Pharmacists Association. The Cannabis for Medical Purposes Evidence Guide offers a curated summary designed to guide HCPs on the possible uses of medicinal cannabis and cannabinoids for a variety of indications. As research is constantly evolving, so too is the guide, which is accessible via www.pharmacists.ca.
UBC: New Healthy Aging Program
A $24-million donation to the University of British Columbia’s faculty of medicine provides the foundation for the Edwin S.H. Leong Healthy Aging Program. Named for benefactor, businessperson and UBC alumnus Edwin S.H. Leong, 66, this is the largest individual gift ever to UBC’s medical school. Dr. Dermot Kelleher, dean of the Faculty of Medicine: “Advancing our knowledge of healthy aging will have far-reaching impacts on people around the world.”
