Boomers left the workforce in droves since the pandemic started, having been let go or resigning for health concerns. And now they’re looking for work, and can’t find a job. After the Great Resignation, now comes The Great Divide.
There are a few reasons behind The Great Divide. The first, as you might suspect, is age discrimination. Bias against older adults persists in the workplace and fully qualified adults of a certain age can have a tough time getting hired. Secondly, the job market is more competitive than ever now. With large numbers of people choosing to resign during the pandemic, those people are all in search for a better job. While there are a lot of job opportunities available, there are even more people competing for that one position than before.
With it being so difficult to land a job, many boomers are opting for early retirement, or working on a part-time basis. In the meanwhile, younger generations are entering the workforce, leaving fewer openings for qualified boomers.
It’s not all doom and gloom though for boomers who are job hunting. There are seven key tactics you can undertake to help improve your job search. Career coach Tammy Homegardner shares her expert advice with Forbes. Learn what you can do to your resume and how you can make yourself more marketable here.
