In Greene County, New York, two women, mother and daughter, ages 95 and 74, are each living alone but thanks to an artificial-intelligence robot, their risk of isolation and loneliness has been decreased. The robot acts as a lifeline to conversation and companionship and helps with responsibilities such as providing medical reminders, health and wellness checks, playing music and games and the opportunity to travel virtually.
They each had ElliQ, a voice-activated, proactive and empathetic care companion, installed thanks to Greene County Human Services, reports marketwatch.com. Intuition Robotics is providing the ElliQ smart technology for about 800 older adults in an effort to battle social isolation and support aging-in-place; this is thanks to a contract with the New York state Office for the Aging. The device is free, however, the recipients require internet access in order to use the smart technology. As for who receive ElliQ, New York state is working with local offices for the aging and partners to identify older adults who would most benefit from the technology
